Residency:
I have
lived in Dronfield Woodhouse for thirty seven years, having been brought up
in Totley during the difficult 1940/50’s.
Job/Pre-retirement job:
On
leaving grammar school, I was employed in the construction equipment
industry, progressing from Junior Clerk to Sales Representative, Regional
Administration Manager finishing up as a Director.
For
the last fourteen years of my working life, my wife and I owned the Sub Post
Office in Dronfield. We were very privileged to help many people in the town
and had first hand experience of the warm and friendly atmosphere which is
so apparent in this area.
Family:
I have
been married to my wife Pat for the past forty three years and have two
married sons with three grand children.
Interests and hobbies:
From a
very early age I always enjoyed helping other people. When I was eighteen I
joined the Special Constabulary in Sheffield, finishing twenty seven years
later having attained the rank of Sub Divisional Officer.
This
journey through the ‘University of Life’ taught me a lot about the plight of
other people, many much less fortunate than myself.
I now
spend my retirement enjoying walks in our beautiful surroundings and being
involved with Cowley Mission at Holmesfield along with events organised by
Dronfield Churches Together and other local organisations.
Why
I’m a councillor:
Although many hours are spent in this voluntary, unpaid position, having an
input in Town Council matters proves to be very rewarding. It is an
opportunity to make sure that Dronfield remains a very attractive place to
live and work.
