CLIMATE CHANGE North East Derbyshire Liberal Democrats ran a public meeting on the energy crisis on the 11th September 2006 which was addressed by various experts and which provoked lively debate. On the 30th October there was a debate at the District Council on the subject of Climate Change. By chance this coincided with the issue of the Stern Report on the same subject. In the debate our Group Leader, Councillor David Mortimer, put forward suggestions about how the Council could make a contribution to the reduction in CO2 emissions by installing solar panels on its public buildings and a further suggestion about how this could be financed. The response by the Labour leader of the Council was very disappointing. After recounting a long list of measures which the Council had already taken he even suggested that the Council should congratulate itself and continue on the same basis as before! This is no way to respond to the most serious problem facing us in the 21st Century. You may have views on this. Please let us know what more you would like the District Council to do.
