Dear Richard,

This is what the weather's been like in my constituency in Cumbria this last week:

Tim Farron in a flooded town

I'm sure you've heard about the floods which have forced hundreds of families out of their homes. A life has been lost and repairs could cost hundreds of millions of pounds.

Sadly, as the climate changes over the coming years, events like those of the last week will grow more and more frequent. The cost to society, both here and all over the world, will continue to grow. That is why I need your help to tackle climate change.

There is a big demonstration planned in London next Saturday, December 5, to help persuade the Government to go further in cutting carbon emissions.

It comes ahead of the vital United Nations climate change talks in Copenhagen the following week.

Hundreds of Liberal Democrats have already signed up to come on the march. If you haven't yet said you will come - I would love you to join us. If you're one of the many who are coming along, please bring your friends as well, helping provide a real show of force and a fantastic message to both the Government and the public.

You can let us know you're coming here.

All the details of the day can be found on Act, our new social action network. On Act, you can sign up to the event - as well as talk about how to tackle climate change with other Lib Dem supporters, and much more.

Hope you can make it next Saturday.

Best wishes,

Tim Farron MP
Lib Dem Shadow Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

Dear Richard,

I'd like to introduce Act, the latest part of our online strategy.

Act is a place where Lib Dem supporters can connect with one another, organise events and campaigns, share photos and videos, and talk about politics. It's open to anyone with Liberal Democrat sympathies, whether they're Party members or not. Together with the new libdems.org.uk website launched November 2nd and a Members' only site slated to go live soon, Act is the centrepiece of a comprehensive digital overhaul for the Lib Dems.

Nick has recorded a short video explaining what we want to help people to achieve: Why not head over to Act to see it?

Nick Clegg talks about Act

To join Act, simply sign up here

Act is there to help you connect with other people. So here are three things you can do:

  • have a look around Act and sign up

  • if you're organising in any upcoming events or campaigns, use Act to help get more people involved

  • forward this message to 3 of your friends who support the Lib Dems but who might not get this email

Over coming weeks Act will become even more useful and interesting. We'll be adding new functions and also integrating some of our major campaigns with the new site. If you're inspired by this work and want to support it, you can make a donation to help develop our online campaigns.

    Best wishes,
    Chris Fox
    Chief Executive, Liberal Democrats

Spring Conference, 12-14 March 2010, Birmingham
For the first time, Birmingham will be playing host to the Liberal Democrats' spring conference 2010. Regenerated, accessible and cosmopolitan, Birmingham will be an impressive backdrop to this important pre-election conference. Policy issues under discussion at this conference will include a full debate on a youth policy paper, as well as consultation sessions on Quality of Life, Localism and International Development. In addition, we will be aiming to use the conference to showcase the party's key policy proposals in the run-up to the election.

Registration is now open - visit the website to register online or download a hard copy of the form. The spring brochure is also available to view online, together with full details about exhibiting, advertising and holding a fringe meeting at next year's conferences.

    Dear Richard,

Next month, members of the United Nations meet in Copenhagen for vital talks on securing a new worldwide response to climate change.

On the Saturday beforehand, December 5, thousands of people will march in London to demand the Government goes further in cutting carbon emissions.

Nick Clegg and I will be leading Liberal Democrats on the march. I would like you to join us. Here's why:

    Simon Hughes talks about Copenhagen

We are the party that has the courage to tackle climate change in Britain. We will go furthest on cutting carbon emissions. Go furthest in generating renewable energy. And go furthest in insulating homes.

But climate change can only be tackled by global action - and that is why the Copenhagen conference is so important. It could prove to be the most important in our lifetimes.

The march on December 5 is a chance for us to show the Government how strongly people in Britain feel. We can't let this opportunity pass. And a strong Liberal Democrat presence on the march will send a clear message to the nation that we are the only party with the ambition and policies to reverse climate change.

Please let us know that you are going to be able to take part in the day of action in December 5th by signing up here.

Nick and I hope to see you there.

    With best wishes,

    Simon Hughes MP
Liberal Democrat Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary
