Residency:
I’ve
lived in Dronfield for 38 years
attending the old Gosforth school before attending Henry Fanshawe school,
and then onto the University of Leeds to study medicine, graduating in 1983
with Honours.
Job:
General Practitioner:
I
am a GP & GP Trainer in Dronfield, working in practice 8 sessions a week and
I’m also qualified as a “GP with Special Interest” (GPSI), running 3 drug
clinics for heroin addicts in Chesterfield each Monday.
Family:
I’ve been married to Karen for nearly 25 years and have 2 boys Michael &
Samuel. Karen is a school governor in the Dronfield Junior School, where she
also does voluntary teacher support work (and has recently resigned the
Vice-Chair of Henry Fanshawe Governors, after 12 years as a governor there.)
Michael is at the University of Birmingham studying Physics and Space
research, whilst Samuel is currently studying A-levels at Henry Fanshawe
School and hopes to go to medical school.
Interests and hobbies:
My
interests include running & cycling, films, good food & wine. I’m also a
committed Christian and elder of my local church in Dronfield, Oaks
Community Church. In addition, I have pioneered Primary Health Care training
in African villages over the past 13 years, with projects in South Africa,
Mozambique, Sri Lanka and Zambia.
Why I’m a councillor:
Having lived in the community for nearly 4 decades, it’ time
to serve the community in a civic capacity; to put something back into the
area from which I’ve derived so much!
I’d like to try and address some of the problems the
community faces and strengthen the social cohesion that the area enjoys.
